Frequently Asked Questions

Click play to watch Dr. Zeigler answer common questions about hearing. Below you'll find a transcript of the questions and his answers.

Am I too young to get a hearing aid?

First, you are never too young to have your hearing evaluated. All new born infants are screened for hearing loss and can be evaluated and fit with hearing aids if needed. As you begin to get older it's not uncommon to loss some hearing. Hearing loss can occur at any age but you should be able to participate in the best conversations of your life. If you suspect any hearing problems contact our office for an evaluation by one of our Audiologists.

Can I prevent hearing loss?

Most hearing loss cannot be prevented; however, hearing loss due to loud noise is entirely preventable even though it is permenate. Loud noise from work, noisy hobbies, or MP3 players can lead to hearing loss and Tinnitus. If you suspect you have been exposed to loud noise, have your hearing evaluated by one of our Audiologists. You can also discuss appropriate ear plugs to use to protect your hearing to prevent any further damage from occurring. If there's any question please contact one of our Audiologists for your evaluation.

Do I need two hearing aids?

If you have a hearing loss in both ears you will benefit from two hearing aids. We need two ears to work together in order to help you hear better when listening at a distance, when trying to hear and understand in a noisy place, and when attempting to localize sound or tell what direction a sounds are coming from. All of those things require both ears to work together. See one of our Audiologists to evaluate your listening needs to find out if you could benefit from two hearing aids.

What is nerve deafness?

90% of all hearing loss is sensory-neural or nerve deafness. While there is no cure for nerve deafness, the best way to get help is to be evaluated and to be fit with hearing aids. You can get help with nerve deafness through well-fit hearing aids from your Audiologist. If you suspect a problem contact our office for an evaluation today.

What is the best hearing aid?

All hearing aid companies are very good and they're very competitive. They work hard to bring the best technology to you and the technology continually changes. In order to get the best hearing aid you should have an evaluation by one of our Audiologists. We will look at your listening needs, program hearing aids for you to listen to right in the office, and we can discuss the technology that will help and that may not be helpful for you. Then after you are fit with the hearing aids we will see you again on a weekly basis to evaluate your progress and make fine-tuning adjustments to the programs for the hearing aids so that you can get the most help from amplification. That is the best way to be fit with the best hearing aid.
