Procedures

Your hearing is our first priority.

Whether your hearing healthcare needs are a complete exam, a hearing aid clean and check, a new hearing aid evaluation, or anything in between, we promise to provide you with exceptional care as we enhance your hearing. Below are just some of the many procedures and services we regularly provide to our patients.

Diagnostic testing

The test is completed in a sound booth using earphones and an audiometer. The audiometer sends different tones at different frequencies to each ear. This is a pain free test. Upon completion of testing each ear, we print out the results and identify if there are any areas of concern. These tests should help determine whether a hearing loss is best treated medically or with hearing aids.

Understanding Hearing Loss

Conductive Hearing Loss can come from any of the following:

Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Permanent hearing loss that develops mainly due to the effects of aging and long term noise exposure. It may also be caused by disease, genetics, toxins, viruses, and tumors to name a few. There is no medical cure for this type of hearing loss. It is very important to see a specialist to diagnose and provide alternative treatment options such asassistive hearing devices and hearing aids. Many people with hearing loss often have difficulty differentiating words that sound alike, especially words that contain S, F, SH, CH, H, TH, T, K or soft C sounds. These consonants are in a much higher frequency range than vowels and other consonants. This makes it extremely challenging to understand speech, and even harder in the presence of other background noise.

Mixed Hearing Loss

Combination of both a Sensorineural hearing loss in one ear and a Conductive hearing loss in the other.

Unilateral Hearing Loss

Hearing loss present in one ear and no losspresent in the other ear. This type of loss is found in both children and adults.

DEGREE OF HEARING LOSS

There are five-six levels or degrees of hearing loss. A person with normal hearing can perceive very soft sounds, where as a person with a profound loss can only perceive sounds louder than 91dB.
